Online Urdu Classes for Teens

Teenagers are in a funny spot with Urdu. Most kids programs feel too young by 13, and a university style course can feel like one more subject to study for. Maybe your teen understands the conversation at family dinners but answers in English. Maybe they want to finally read the Urdu letters on a wedding card. Either way, there is a place for them at Kids Bolo.

Our speaking classes use Roman Urdu (Urdu written in English letters), start in a mix of English and Urdu and move toward more Urdu over time. Groups stay small, so nobody can hide in the back row, and nobody gets lost either.

Which class fits your teen?

Pick by age and by what your teen wants: speaking, reading and writing, or learning on their own schedule.

Why it works for teens

  • Everyday Urdu, not homework. Lessons focus on the Urdu your teen will actually use with grandparents, cousins and friends.
  • Starting from zero is normal. Our classes are designed for native English speakers with little or no Urdu.
  • Roman Urdu first, script when they want it. Speaking classes use English letters. Script classes are there when your teen is ready to read and write.
  • Small live groups. 3 to 5 students per class, so everyone gets real speaking time.
  • Fits a busy week. Script and 16+ classes meet once a week, and the self-paced course fits around everything else.
Learn to read and write the Urdu script, designed for ages 13 and up

Reading and writing the Urdu script

Lots of teens can speak a little Urdu but have never learned the letters. Our script classes are beginner friendly and move through 3 structured levels:

  1. Letter recognition and formation
  2. Word building and vocabulary
  3. Sentences and expression

Expect step by step guided writing, practice worksheets, dictation and revision sessions. Knowing how to speak Urdu helps, but it is not required.

Common questions

My teen understands Urdu but won't speak it. Which class should they take?

That is really common. A 13 year old can join our conversational classes for ages 11 to 13, and from 16 our adult conversational classes are a great fit. The self-paced speaking course works for ages 13 and up. If you are not sure, send us a message and we will help.

Does my teen need to read the Urdu script?

No. Our speaking classes use Roman Urdu (Urdu in English letters) so your teen can speak from the first class. If they want to read and write, our Urdu script classes for ages 13 and up teach the script from letter recognition to short sentences.

How big are the classes?

Small. Classes have 3 to 5 students, so every teen gets plenty of turns to speak.

Will the class times work with school?

Each class page lists the times on offer, and times change from term to term, so please check the class page for the latest options. If the time you want is full, you can join the class waitlist.

Live classes are a monthly subscription, and the price shows in your local currency on each class page. You can cancel with 2 weeks' notice before the 1st of the month.
