Urdu Classes for Kids in New York and New Jersey

Between school and after-school activities, finding an Urdu class that actually fits your week in New York or New Jersey is not easy. Kids Bolo classes are live and online, so your child joins from home, whether that is an apartment in Brooklyn, a house on Long Island or a town in central New Jersey.

We built our classes for children who understand a bit of Urdu at home but answer in English, and for children starting from nothing at all. Teachers mix English and Urdu at first, then use more Urdu as your child gets comfortable. Everything is written in Roman Urdu, so speaking comes before the script.

Any of the five boroughs, Westchester, or across the Hudson in Jersey City, Paterson or Edison: it is all on Eastern time, so there is no time zone maths to do. Your child just needs a laptop or tablet and a quiet corner.

Kids Bolo small groups: a maximum of 5 children of a similar age in each session

Why New York and New Jersey parents pick Kids Bolo

  • No extra trip after school. Class happens at the kitchen table, so there is no commute at the end of a long day.
  • Times for Eastern time families. Our class pages list class times that work for families on Eastern time, so you can fit Urdu around homework and weekend plans.
  • Small enough to talk. Each class has 3 to 5 children of a similar age, so every child gets real turns to speak.
  • Starts where your child is. Little or no Urdu is fine. Lessons begin in a mix of English and Urdu and lean into more Urdu over time.
  • Speaking first, script later. Roman Urdu (Urdu in English letters) lets children speak from the first lesson. Script classes are there for ages 13 and up.

Questions from New York and New Jersey parents

Do you hold classes in person in New York or New Jersey?

No. Every Kids Bolo class is live online. Your child joins from home on a laptop or tablet and learns with a real teacher and a few classmates.

Do your class times work for families on Eastern time?

Yes. Each class page shows the times on offer, including times that suit families on Eastern time. Times can change between terms, so the class page always has the latest options.

We are in New Jersey, not the city. Is this for us too?

Yes. Classes are online, so it makes no difference whether you are in Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island or a New Jersey suburb. Everyone joins the same live classes from home.

My kids understand some Urdu but always answer in English. Is that a fit?

Yes, that is exactly who our classes are built for. Teachers start in a mix of English and Urdu and gently move toward more Urdu, so children start answering in Urdu too.

What ages do you teach?

Play-based sessions are for ages 2.5 to 4.5. Conversational classes are for ages 5 to 13, in groups for ages 5 to 7, 8 to 10 and 11 to 13. Script classes are for ages 13 and up, and adult classes for ages 16 and up.

How does pricing work?

Classes are a monthly subscription. The current price is shown on each class page, and you can cancel with 2 weeks' notice before the 1st of the month.

What do we need at home?

A laptop or tablet with a camera, a steady internet connection and a quiet corner for the class.

Who teaches the classes?

Our teachers are native Urdu speakers based in the US, the UK and Canada, and they are used to teaching children who have grown up speaking English.
